  1. Review our report and ask questions that will help with confirming the accuracy of the details provided. Ask questions on a candidate’s personal background and work background. For example:
    1. Do you have a family? How many children do you have? How old are they? Do you anticipate any challenges with the children when you are working away from home?
    1. Do you have any experience raising a new born? How did you find it? What did you enjoy most and what was most challenging?
    1. How did you balance between caring for an infant and house work?
  2. General areas to agree on:

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Organizational skills: How do you organize your day when you wake up?
    1. Tip: Where there’s a small baby a nanny is expected to wake up early enough so that she can finish most of the housework then focus the baby during the day.
    1. Parenting: Is the candidate open to a different style of parenting? You might do some things differently and you would not want your nanny to contradict your parenting style because they are older or have more experience in parenting than you do. A nanny can have her own ideas on parenting, some might be good but others might not work for you. They must be willing to listen and take instructions in line with your preferred parenting style.
    1. Off-day: Agree on the weekly off day. Is it Every Sunday or  Saturday and Sunday? What time to what time? E.g. from 8:00am – 5:30 pm
    1. Annual Leave: Agree if it is once a year or twice a year and for how long. What date to what date?
    1. Salary expectation: How much is it?Will it be reviewed after 1 year of work?
    1. Performance review: Is the candidate open to receiving feedback and correcting the areas that need improvement?
    1. Notice for resignation: If a nanny decides to leave or resign from work, talk about the expected notice period (We expect each party to provide 7 working days notice or payment in lieu of notice).
  2. Talk about your expectations as an employer. E.g.
    1. Priority 1: Quality care for the baby
    1. Hygiene: Baby’s dishes should be well cleaned, rinsed and stored to avoid infection
    1. General cleanliness and orderliness of the home.
    1. Respect for the place of work: The home should be treated with the due respect of a place of work. i.e.
      1. Use your phone respectfully in a manner that will not distract you from your work or disturb the peace of a private household
      1. Be open and respectful in communication when uncomfortable with an issue instead of discussing private issues with peers.
  3. Give the candidate a chance to ask any questions
